Secondhand Books

CURRENTLY NOT TAKING BOOKS UNTIL MARCH 2025.

Our secondhand section contains a curated selection of Scottish history, local history, outdoors, nature, trains, and a smattering of fiction. We also have a small selection of antiquarian books. We’ll do our best to help you find what you’re looking for!

Our secondhand selection of books is ever changing, so keep an eye out. We get new titles in every day!

Buying Books

If you are looking to be rid of a few gently used books, we’d be happy to take them off your hands. Books are taken in by appointment or if staff member Sally is here and available.

We take books for money at a 25% of what we would sell the book at. E.g We sell book ‘A’ at £10, we can potentially give you £2.50. We also accept them on donation. The value of the books is based on the book's condition, its popularity and how many other copies we have already.

We are currently only looking at very particular titles:
- Scottish History
- Local history
- Scottish Railway
- Mountaineering/climbing/outdoor guides
- Travel Writing
- Maps

We are limited in space so anything not accepted must be sent back with the supplier/donator. There are many local charities who will be happy to accept them.

If you’re not sure, feel free to call us at 01397 705 931 or email Sally with your list of titles at bookshop@highlandbookshop.com and we’ll try to help you as best we can.
